Isobel Marion Dorothea Mackellar, writer, was born in Sydney, New South Wales, to Sir Charles Kinnaird Mackellar, physician, and his wife Marion, daughter of Thomas Buckland. Core of my heart was written in about 1904, appearing in several publications before being included as My country in her first book, The closed door, and other verses (Melbourne, 1911).
